What do I – a semi bimbotic, obnoxiously loud, hardcore SMUKI supporter – think of Olymppic 2010? I’d say it was a lot of things rolled up into one fun package.

The rabid supporter that I am, I went to all three Olymppic venues; SIS, PSB, and Republic Polytechnic. The atmosphere felt different in each venue, but my favorite was definitely the final day at Republic Polytechnic. Clad in an SMU shirt, it was pretty awkward to walk around the Republic Polytechnic’s campus, but I thought that it was nothing a hyped-up supporter couldn’t endure.
It was fun to escape my busy school life for just one day and let loose with friends. It kind of reminded me of high school, especially when I was sitting on the bleachers watching the game surrounded by loud Indonesian chatters. What surprised me the most was that by the end of the day, it no longer felt like Olymppic was a friendly competition between schools. I actually enjoyed watching other teams playing, and I even cheered for other schools when SMU was not competing. Not to mention, I got to meet my friends from other schools whom I haven’t seen in quite a while. It was like a mini reunion! Olymppic actually brought people together.
This year’s event was the first Olymppic that I attended, so I have nothing to compare it with. However, for what it’s worth, I had fun. I bet everyone who came would agree with me, too.
