Looking for an easy read over during your holiday? Here’s a suggestion or two:

Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman’s Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia
Author : Elizabeth Gilbert

What would you do, if one day you discovered yourself crying on the bathroom floor, dreading about life? Well, Elizabeth Gilbert went to eat in Italy, pray in India, and found love in Indonesia.

Elizabeth is funny, intelligent, and provocative. At some points, you will laugh and say; “Been there, done that,” or “I’ve never thought of that,” or even “what a fool!” But whatever it is, Elizabeth successfully delivers her life story in a relatable, funny, and easy-to-understand way.

This is a thought-provoking book, not just another memoir where it’s all about “me”; it is a memoir about “me” with a glaze of “meaning of life” from the eyes and experiences of Elizabeth Gilbert.

The Secret
Author : Rhonda Byrne

The most talked-about DVD is now available in book. The Secret is about ‘the law of attraction’—the key to your destiny. It tells you how to get everything you want in life, I mean, EVERYTHING—negative and positive.

You will be surprised to find out that you are actually implying “the secret” every day in your life without even knowing it.

The cover looks like a fantasy novel, and when you skim the book, perhaps, you will feel that this is all a joke. But, the design of the book and the light language used are the ones that distinguish it from other self-help books. Sometimes, things get repetitive; but considering that it is a self-help book, perhaps it is Rhonda’s strategy to transmit the main points, over and over again.

5 cm: Sebuah Novel
Author : Donny Dhirgantoro

5 cm follows the journey of six best-friends (Genta, Arial, Zafra, Ian, Riani, Arinda)—young adults who seek the meaning of life on an adventure to Mt. Mahameru. Sounds cheesy?

Well, yeah, but not that much. The story is very light, with no drama. It is very descriptive and relatable. Donny used song-lyrics to describe the situation of the story; which I found interesting and different. However, some chapters are filled with “lectures” and drifts reader’s attention away from the story.

Overall, Donny has managed to deliver the story in the most relatable and understood way; thus its popularity among teenagers and young-adults.
