Goal! That is what has been missing for the past three months after Liga PPIS ended. But now, PPIS’ annual sporting event OlymPPIc is back, and crazier than ever before! The returning teams from the last Liga, such as NTU, NUS, SIM, MDIS, Curtin Singapore, and many more, will compete to be the best.
At the last Liga, NTU did awesomely and dominated the whole futsal tournament. As for the basketball tournament, PSB Academy is still unshakably dominating and remains the reigning champion. Unlike Liga, however, OlymPPIc will also feature a badminton tournament, in both singles (men/women) and doubles (men/women/mixed).
Diaspora reporters have interviewed some of the players from the competing teams later in the OlymPPIc. The teams are preparing pretty hard for this OlymPPIc, and even for the stronger teams, they apparently have some sort of a super secret special training; we’re not even allowed a glimpse!
We asked several teams on what they think of OlymPPIc:
PINTU (Futsal): We chatted with the vice-captain of the NTU futsal team, Alvin Kennardi, who feels that it was “very satisfying that [they] won the last Liga, and [they] are looking forward to competing with a stronger team in OlymPPIc.”
Curtin: We talked to a couple of players from Curtin’s futsal team, and they said confidently that they will definitely win the championship. They also believed that the failure in the last Liga has motivated them to change the way they train, as well as their chemistry and teamwork for OlymPPIc.
PINTU (Basketball): The basketball runner-up in the last Liga, the PINTU team is disappointed in their result at the last Liga, and now they are more prepared and motivated as ever.
MAPIA: We also interviewed the mastermind behind the defending basketball champions: PSB Academy’s basketball coach/MAPIA legend/IAF IV star Adrian “Ucok” Pardede. According to him, the team will focus more on their defense this time around. He said: “Offense wins games. Defense wins championships. Although we may win a lot of points through our offense, we can still lose the game if we have a bad defense.”
They’re all excited, so should you! The two-day event will be held on Sunday, 26 February 2012* and Sunday, 4 March 2012* at Chatsworth International School, Orchard Campus (for basketball and futsal); the badminton venue is yet to be confirmed. Do visit the official OlymPPIc website for more up-to-date information. See you there!
*CORRECTION APPENDED: An earlier version of this article states that OlymPPIc will be held on Saturday, 25 February 2012 to Sunday, 26 February 2012, at Clementi Sports Hall. However, due to a miscommunication, the dates have been postponed to Sunday, 26 February 2012 and Sunday, 4 March 2012, at Chatsworth International School (for basketball and futsal); the badminton venue is yet to be confirmed.
