Adhitia Sofyan @ Rockin’ The Region: Indonesia 2010

“I was told that there would be fireworks and jets. Let’s hope it will all come in a good timing”. Nope, we’re not watching The 2010 National Day Parade yet. Last weekend from the 16th to 18th of July 2010, we got the privilege to watch Adhitia Sofyan live in Esplanade Outdoor Theatre for Rockin’ The Region: Indonesia. The show, the crowd and Adhit himself were stupefying. Read on, and I will tell you why.

More About Adhitia Sofyan and His Music

Adhitia Sofyan is an Indonesian singer-songwriter who specializes in easy-listening mellow type of music. He has two self-recorded albums called “Quiet Down” and “Forget Your Plans”. I can tell that he’s good with words since his lyrics are simple yet very catchy. Try listening to “In To You” and “Memilihmu”. As for me, some of his songs can be considered as an alternative to a curcol (curhat colongan) session. And yes, the fusion of his smooth voice and the melodious guitar tunes completes the whole package of galau-ness.

The Live Experience: Greatest Cure After the Rain

It was raining the whole day and his performance starts right after the rain stopped. The weather was just nice, and the panoramic view from the seat was impressive. No more gloomy skies, all I can see is the reflection of the city lights that goes along perfectly with the sundown. Moreover, it was an evening after the National Day Parade rehearsal ended so there was a little surprise for those who watched the Saturday show: fireworks!

Right before the last song, “Carnival”, the crowd was carried away by the breathtaking bursts of colors behind the stage. Good thing is, Adhit didn’t just stand there waiting for the attraction to end. Instead, he quickly filled the moment with his smooth guitar tunes that went in accordance with the fireworks. Indeed, the additional attraction makes for a very compelling conclusion.

To be honest, at first I kept my expectations low since I assumed that he will just sing the songs exactly how I heard it through the CD. Surprisingly, the show turned out to be far from mediocre. He did a lot of improvisations, successfully making the songs fresh to the ears. Communication-wise, he talked to the audience by telling the story of the song he was about to sing beforehand. After getting the audience all armed with a clearer perception of the meaning behind the song, that is when he started singing. Furthermore, you don’t have to question the sound quality. It was clear enough even though there were so many noises and distractions around. Kudos to that!

All in all, it was a very pleasant experience to catch Adhitia Sofyan’s live performance in Singapore. I got the chance to chat with him after the show and he was very friendly and approachable. So go on, visit his website at http://www.adhitiasofyan.com and be The Stalker, just as he phrased it. Enjoy!
